Plastic-Lined Pipe Dimensions & Liner Thickness

Resistoflex plastic-lined pipe is made to NPS outside diameters. Standard 10' and 20' lined pipe lengths are available for liners of PP (1" - 12" dia.), PVDF (1" - 8" dia.), and PTFE (1" - 12" dia.). Forty-foot pipe lengths are available for PP and PVDF liners (1-1/2" - 6" dia.). A tolerance of ± 1/8" is maintained on standard and custom lined pipe lengths.

Carbon steel housings are available for all plastic liners. Pipe with a PTFE liner is also available with Schedule 40 304L stainless steel (316L stainless steel is available upon request). A tolerance of ± 1/8" is maintained on all custom lined pipe lengths.

Crane Resistoflex Thermalok PTFE-Lined Pipe Spools

Resistoflex Thermalok steel pipe and PTFE liner act as one integral piece. Combining dissimilar materials with very different coefficients of thermal expansion, our precision Thermalok Process locks the isostatically molded PTFE liner into the pipe housing, making it full vacuum rated from -20°F to 450°F.

The Thermalok process positively locks the plastic liner in the metal pipe housing while effectively relieving stresses that could cause unwanted liner movement in service.

In-stock teflon-lined pipe spools are fabricated within hours at our facilities.

Thermalok Process

  • Incoming lots of resin are analyzed in our Quality Assurance laboratory for conformance to established raw material specifications.
  • The liner is processed under controlled conditions to a size somewhat larger than the I.D. of the steel housing into which it will be installed. It is then thoroughly inspected for conformance to design specifications. Next, the PTFE liner is subjected to a battery of quality tests designed to ensure liner integrity.
  • The liner is then drawn through a sizing die at carefully controlled draw rates which results in a calculated reduction in the outside diameter.
  • A programmed heating cycle relaxes the liner inside the steel housing, resulting in a snug liner fit. Design allowances are incorporated in this procedure to eliminate undesirable stresses in the finished product.
  • Both liner ends of the pipe spool are then hot flared. Temperature, time and pressure are carefully monitored.
  • The finished pipe is then tested in accordance with ASTM F1545 standards.
This unique Thermalok process provides lined pipe with dimensional stability under vacuum, pressure, and thermal cycling conditions, which prevents liner buckling and cracked flares within operational limits.

Thermalok Field Flare Pipe Resistoflex supplies Thermalok Field Flare pipe with moveable liner for distributors and end users who fabricate finished pipe spools in their shops. A moveable plastic liner allows the fabricator a wide variety of flange options - rotating, welded, or threaded. Thermalok Field Flare tooling is available. Available liners are PTFE, PVDF, and polypropylene.

The Thermalok Field Flare product is made with the same process as standard flanged Thermalok pipe spools, but the relaxing step is modified to result in a moveable liner. When fabricated by a distributor or end user with Resistoflex tooling and in accordance with our procedures, the finished piping has identical performance (pressure/temperature/vacuum) as standard factory-made pipe spools. All field flare piping has been qualified to the rigorous testing requirements of ASTM F1545.

Crane Resistoflex Swaged PTFE-Lined Steel Pipe (Multi-Axis)

Specialty steel tubing is mechanically reduced around the plastic liner. This lined pipe is used exclusively for CONQUEST and MULTI-AXIS piping systems. The swaged piping is available with threaded flanges and rotating flange assemblies. Sizes range from 1" - 8".

MULTI-AXIS® Plastic Lined Pipe
  • Eliminates flange connections at elbows.
  • Sections are bent at any angle up to 90° with a tolerance of ±1°.
  • Reduces pressure drop across the bend and reduces energy costs.
  • Longer bend radius (3 diameters vs. 1.5 diameters).
The Bending Process

Although the concept behind MULTI-AXIS® pipe is simple, successfully bending swaged plastic-lined pipe is not. It is considerably more difficult than bending unlined pipe. As for loose-lined pipe, it is virtually impossible to bend without distorting the liner. The liner in Resistoflex Plastic-Lined Pipe is locked into position and resists distortion.

Resistoflex uses special bending equipment and proprietary manufacturing techniques to provide bends in any angle up to 90° and compound bends on a single section of pipe. MULTI-AXIS® pipe is a high-quality product with dimensional tolerances of ± 0.125" (3.2mm), even on pieces with multiple bends. Due to the complexity of the bending operation, field bending of MULTI-AXIS® pipe is not available. MULTI-AXIS® pipe can be supplied with Class 150 steel rotatable flanges or with plain ends that can be joined in the field with other plastic-lined pipe sections using CONQUEST® flangeless connections.

When considering MULTI-AXIS® pipe, it's important to carefully examine directional changes in a system to determine whether the centerline-to-face or centerline-to-centerline dimensional requirements of bent pipe can be met within the parameters of the initial design. If not, design adjustments may be required.

Crane Resistoflex CONQUEST® PTFE-Lined Steel Pipe

Designed to minimize the number of flanged connections in the process line, CONQUEST is made from swaged pipe and is available in 1" - 4" for all liner types. CONQUEST is a flangeless (plastic) PTFE-lined steel piping system with welded liners and mechanical couplings instead of flanges to provide completely sealed, permanent pipe-to-pipe and pipe-to-fitting connections.

Facing tighter regulations and tighter budgets, many companies have been searching for ways to help reduce maintenance and prevent fugitive emissions and leaks in their piping systems.

Resistoflex has an answer. Their CONQUEST® plastic-lined piping system virtually eliminates the need for flanged connections.

While flanged connections on plastic-lined pipe have provided a strong, tight seal in the past, there has been a growing concern about their maintenance requirements. Before, visual inspections of piping system connections sufficed; now vapor analyzers are required to measure potential fugitive emissions in many service environments. Leak criteria is more stringent, causing companies to invest millions of dollars in a variety of new products and equipment. Many of these just measure the problem, or postpone it.

That's why Resistoflex has designed the CONQUEST® system. It consists of three Resistoflex exclusives that trim flanged connections by up to 95 percent, virtually eliminating fugitive emissions, leaks, and maintenance in the plastic lined-piping system:

  • MULTI-AXIS® precision-bent plastic-lined pipe
  • 40-foot straight section of piping
