Spray Ring Solves Sediment Build-Up Issues

Designed and Installed by CF PUMPSERVE, Pump Repair Division - www.CFPUMPSERVE.com

Above: 18" Fairbanks Morse Vertical Sump Pump, Modified with Custom Spray Ring
One of our customers uses three vertical turbine cooling tower pumps at their facility, of which they run two at a time. The area under the idle pump tends to have the system sediment and debris gather there.

The Problem:
This customer had a recent failure where the suction of the pump was blocked to the extent that it seized up at start-up due to the build up of sediment.

The Solution:
A spray ring was added to their three stage, 18" Fairbanks Morse vertical turbine pump to allow for sediment to be cleared away from the pump suction prior to start-up.

The spray ring uses an external water source before start-up to clear the pump suction. This will ensure pump reliability in between the cooling tower sump annual cleanings.

Notes:
Spray ring uses city water (approx. 85 PSI) to generate approx. 35 GPM of spraying force.

There are four stainless steel "P" clamps with rubber inserts bolted every 90 degrees around the suction bell to the spray ring. This ensures a very rigid, durable design.

"Weekend Endeavour"
CFPC Service Team Work Responds Quickly to Customer Emergency

We received a call from a customer on Saturday to locate 10 inch high performance butterfly valves and fabricate special valve brackets and couplings to mount actuators.

The customer said that the diaphragm valves in their new system were failing (diaphragm ruptures) at a very rapid rate and they wanted to convert them over to butterfly valves. He had two diaphragm valves fail Friday and needed replacements right away.

Corrosion Fluid Products personnel worked Saturday and into the night, driving close to 500 miles from Davenport to Chicago, then to Farmington and delivered the valves to the steel mill on Sunday morning.

Four CFPC branches were involved in helping our customer with their emergency. By responding so rapidly, and getting him the actuated valve packages by Sunday morning, we once again lived up to our motto, "Competence and Speed!"

A Very Special Thank You goes out to all that were involved, including:
Bruce Kelling, Mike Veith, Ron Sackett, Jody Linnig, Ted Corbeill, Mike Ostrowski, Keith Metz and Chris Weimer.

Energy/Cost Saving Success Story - Portable Acid System

Corrosion Fluid Products Saves Water Treatment Plant over $60,000 in 6 months!

Corrosion Fluid Products Corp. worked with a Water Treatment Plant in Indiana to improve the cleaning process of large media filters throughout the city’s water distribution system. A portable acid system was needed that could be taken to each location and used to clean the calcification on the filters. A lightweight and acid resistant solution was required, and engineers turned to Corrosion for a solution.

A heavy duty trailer was selected that can be disconnected and used on-site for multiple days at a time. The system was then fabricated and delivered to the customer in complete working order. The fiberglass tank, piping and valves, all supplied by Corrosion Fluid Products, provided an extremely lightweight but very acid resistant system. The flexibility of the system allowed the total filter cleaning time to drop from 3 weeks to 3 days and the plant also enjoyed a significant cost savings- over $60,000 during the first half of 2009!
